Certan B402 Wax Moth Treatment
Reliable shipping
Flexible returns
Certan B402 is a biological preventative treatment designed to control young wax moth larvae before they can destroy stored honeycomb. It contains a concentrated solution of Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt), a naturally occurring microorganism that specifically targets wax moth larvae while being harmless to honey bees when used as directed.
Apply Certan to your extracted honey frames before storing your supers. Once treated and allowed to dry, the comb is protected from wax moth larvae through the following season, helping preserve the drawn comb your bees worked so hard to build.
Unlike chemical fumigants, Certan does not leave residues in your wax or honey, making it an excellent option for protecting stored beekeeping equipment.
Why Protect Drawn Comb?
Drawn comb is one of the most valuable resources in your apiary. Bees have to consume significant resources to produce wax and build new comb, so preserving those frames gives your colonies a major head start the following season.
Wax moths can quickly damage unattended comb, particularly when supers are stored in warm, dark conditions. Treating frames with Certan after honey harvest helps prevent young wax moth larvae from becoming established and destroying your comb during storage.
How to Use
Certan is a concentrate and must be diluted before application.
Mix 1 part Certan with 19 parts water to create a 5% solution. Prepare only what you plan to use that day, as the diluted solution should be applied the same day for best results.
Apply the prepared solution to your extracted comb according to the product label and allow the frames to dry completely before storage.
In warmer climates or conditions where wax moth activity remains high, protect dried, treated supers from reinfestation by wrapping them or storing them in an enclosed space.
