This beginner beekeeping class is built for people who want to start beekeeping the right way — with clarity, confidence, and a realistic understanding of what it takes to care for honey bees through an entire season.

Beekeeping has a steep learning curve, and many new beekeepers struggle not because they lack passion, but because they’re given scattered information without a clear management plan. This class is designed to change that by walking you through a simple, proven framework that focuses on what actually keeps colonies alive, productive, and healthy.

Throughout the class, we break beekeeping down into four core pillars that guide every decision inside the hive:

Hive Management – Learn how a hive is structured, how to perform inspections without harming colony rhythm, what to watch for during each season, and how to recognize when bees are thriving versus when they need intervention.

Nutrition Management – Understand how forage availability, feeding strategies, and seasonal nutrition impact colony strength, brood production, and long-term survival. You’ll learn when feeding helps bees — and when it can create problems.

Queen Management – Discover how to identify a healthy queen, read brood patterns, recognize early warning signs of queen failure, and understand when requeening or intervention is necessary.

Disease Recognition & Treatment – Learn how to spot common threats like Varroa mites, brood diseases, and stress-related colony decline early enough to take meaningful action. We focus on practical monitoring and treatment strategies that support long-term colony health.

This class goes beyond theory. It is built from real-world experience managing hundreds of colonies across Utah’s unique climate and forage conditions. We share not only what works, but why it works, along with mistakes and lessons that every beekeeper eventually encounters.

By the end of this class, you will understand:

• What a healthy hive should look like

• How to read your bees instead of guessing

• When to step in and when to step back

• How to prepare your colony for seasonal changes

• How to avoid the most common beginner mistakes

Most importantly, you’ll leave with a clear management roadmap and the confidence to start your beekeeping journey with realistic expectations and strong foundational knowledge.

Whether you’re preparing for your first hive or want to strengthen your understanding before the season begins, this class is designed to give you the tools, mentorship, and direction that new beekeepers are often missing.
